AURANGABAD: A two-year-old boy, who accidentally fell in a pot of boiling water on Friday noon, succumbed to the severe burn injuries on Saturday. He was being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The deceased child has been identified Mustaqim Muqid Khan, a resident of the Makai Gate area of the city.
Following the incident, the Begumpura police have registered a case of accidental death.
Citing the medico-legal case recorded at the GMCH-based police post, the Begumpura police said the boy was playing in the house when he accidentally fell in a pot of water that was being boiled for bathing purpose.
Mustaqim's relative Mateen Khan rushed him to the GMCH, where he was referred to the burn ward. However, the boy, who had received serious burn injuries all over his body, succumbed in the wee hours of Saturday.
In his statement to the police, Khan said the boy sustained burns after he fell into a pot of boiling water on Friday at around 11.30 am. Authorities revealed that a probe is being carried out to ascertain the exact conditions under which the boy went close to the pot and fell in it.
The statements of all the family members present in the house, along with the boy's parents will be recorded, said a constable privy to the investigation.
