Maharashtra CM requests Karnataka CM to increase discharge from Almatti to tame floods in Kolhapur

As flood situation in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara worsened on Tuesday, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanvis spoke to Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa and requested to increase water discharge from the Almatti reservoir to tame floods in southern parts of Maharashtra. Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force are carrying out rescue operations in the flood hit areas.

Release of water from the reservoirs on Koyana and Krishna rivers in Maharashtra have also led to flood like situations in north Karnataka. The Karnataka CM carried out an areal survey of flood affected areas in the state.

River Panchganga is flowing above danger leeom// vel in Kolhapur. According to the state government, 6 villages from Shirol, 1 from Hatkanangle, Chikhali, Ambewadi area & Kolhapur city affected. The state government has reportedly moved about 10,000 people to safer places and cut electricity supply of about 85,000 people as a precaution. Many people are stranded in Kolhapur as water has reached roads and bridges on major roads.

"State Government moving 6 teams with Navy boats to Kolhapur by air. For Sangli 4 FRP boats of NDRF are being moved from Pune.Almost 1500 families evacuated so far and administration is taking care of the situation. In Sangli, one NDRF team is deployed and another is on the way," tweeted office of the CM. Maharashtra government has requested Government of India for NDRF teams from Goa for Dodamarg in Sindhudurg district in view of the discharge from Tillari dam.
