Details given about a male friend having been with her for a part of the cab ride also seems to be incorrect, going by her statement to the magistrate.
Cab driver allegedly rapes JNU student in Delhi
The bus stop behind which the JNU woman was raped
NEW DELHI: Contrary to earlier reports in the case of sexual assault on a JNU student allegedly by a cab driver on the night of August 2, police sources now say - based on her statement - that she had gone to a Buddhist shrine in the Mandir Marg area for meditation and not to a birthday party on Panchkuian Road.
Details given about a male friend having been with her for a part of the cab ride also seems to be incorrect, going by her statement to the magistrate.

The temple authorities told TOI that police had taken away footage from CCTV cameras installed there for investigations.

An inquiry has been initiated into the survivor's allegations that she was turned away by a few policemen from the Vasant Kunj police station.
‘Cab had 9, 5 on its numberplate’
While Delhi Police is yet to make any headway in the case, the sequence of events is getting a bit clearer. A 25-member team from New Delhi district has zeroed in on 43 cabs operating in the area — after scanning around 3,100 app-based taxis — at the time when the survivor, who is a practising Buddhist, boarded the taxi.

She can recall 9 and 5 as two digits on the numberplate but has been unable to give any further information. CCTV footage from cameras around Nelson Mandela Marg — where the cabbie allegedly raped the woman — is also being examined.
There are many unanswered questions and many pieces in the puzzle that are still to fall in place. The timeline, for one, is quite long and the survivor seems to have stumbled from one place to another in fear and trauma.
According to her statement, the woman said that on August 2, she had boarded an autorickshaw from JNU gate to reach the temple, where she met a few acquaintances. It was her usual practice to leave her phone at her hostel room since she did not want to be disturbed during these sessions.
After stepping out of the temple around 8pm, she sat on the footpath outside, waiting for a taxi or an auto to return to JNU. After sometime, she approached a passerby and asked him to help her book a cab.
The woman recalled that the cab was a black Maruti, though she could not specify the model. She said the driver had insisted on her sitting in the front seat beside him. Her ordeal started soon after.
The driver offered her a drink from a bottle after which she started feeling dizzy. She said the driver then started touching her inappropriately. She could recall that the man was driving around on the same roads for sometime. When she protested, he began driving towards JNU.
A little before 9pm, she has said, they reached Nelson Mandela Marg. But, instead of turning towards JNU, the driver continued to drive straight. This made the woman raise an alarm. She protested but the driver rolled up the windows of the car.
According to her account, the cabbie suddenly stopped the car, tilted his seat backwards and tried to pull her towards him. The woman said she managed to free herself and slapped him. As his grip loosened, she unlocked the door and ran towards JNU. The driver chased her, pinned her down near a bus stop and dragged her behind it. He gagged her with a part of her garment and allegedly raped her.
The woman said she got up and started walking towards Vasant Kunj in a daze. She managed to reach the police station around 1am. After cops allegedly refused to escort her to the hostel, she walked about 6km to reach a park where she hid during the day on Saturday. Finally, on August 4, she approached a man who helped her reach the hostel.
