LUCKNOW: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Sonbhadra on August 13 to meet the families of the victims of the July 17 massacre.
Gandhi will visit Umbha Village, where 10 people were killed and close to 30 were injured, when a village headman and his supporters opened fire at Gond tribals to take possession of a land. When Priyanka attempted to visit the victims' families after the incident, she was stopped at Mirzapur by the district administration and detained at Chunar Guest House.
Refusing to leave till she met the families,she spent the night at the guest house and finally left for Delhi after some of the affected families walked from their village to the guest house and met her.
"Before leaving from Mirzapur that day, Priyankaji had said that she would return to the village. If the district administration feared law and order issues as the massacre had just taken place, there should be no reason to worry now. She will be visit Umbha village where she will meet the families," said a party functionary.
Gandhi's detailed schedule will be finalized on Monday evening.
