Indian Plumbing Conference in Bengaluru to focus on water conservation

The 26th edition of the Indian Plumbing Conference and Exhibition will be held on October 11 and 12 in Bengaluru. The theme of the conference is ‘H2-WOE, WAT-ER WAY TO GO.’
The event is expected to have 700 delegates, over 10,000 trade visitors and other professionals including plumbing consultants, plumbing contractors, architects, interior designers, real estate developers, utility owners, hoteliers, hospital administrators and fire service officials. The exhibition will have a display of pumps and valves, pipes, firefighting systems, drainage solution, water treatment systems, sanitary fixture, swimming pool, hot water systems etc.

Gurmit Singh Arora, president, Indian Plumbing Association said that IPAis on a historical mission to make a positive behavioural change in society, to save future generations from serious water woes. “As part of our water management campaign, the Indian Plumbing Association is committed to save about 130 crore litres of water this year. Globally, buildings consume 25% of the water and agriculture about 60%,” he said.

Arora said that buildings are responsible for one third of the emissions of the greenhouse gases. “In most apartment complexes in the city, there is an excess of treated waste water even after it being used for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing needs. A minimum of 50% of this treated waste water is therefore surplus and can be diverted for use in construction sites. This will reduce the burden on the use of freshwater for construction,” he said.

IPA has claimed to have taken several initiatives to alleviate the plight of those living in rural areas such as construction of toilet blocks for underprivileged and girls schools at various locations in several villages.

“As part of our ‘I Save Water Campaign’, we are also involved in propagating the reuse of treated wastewater in construction projects. Seventy percent of communicable diseases are communicated through bad quality of water or due to lack of adequate sanitation,” the association president said.
