MUZAFFARPUR: Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse an irate mob which indulged in stone-pelting and arson in Damodarpur locality under the Kanti police station area in Muzaffarpur on Monday. At least 15 people were injured in the clash.
Police sources said the trouble began at around 10am, when two groups clashed with each other over some petty issue in Damodarpur locality.

Later, a police team and riot- control team led by SP (city) Niraj Kumar Singh was sent to the spot. Finding the situation getting more tense, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the mob in which nearly 10 people were injured.
One of the locals said the two groups from different communities entered into a heated argument over playing DJ during ‘Kanwar Yatra’.
The situation soon turned ugly as members of both the communities started pelting stones, in which five people received injuries.
“People from one group asked another to stop playing DJ music. But when the other group did not listen to them it led to a heated argument between them. Soon clashes started and they started pelting stones on each other. The news about the attack on ‘kanwar yatris’ spread like a wildfire and people belonging to a particular community attacked the first group,” he said.

Later, Tirhut zone IG Ganesh Kumar, Tirhut divisional commissioner Narmadeshwar Lal, Muzaffarpur DM Alok Ranjan Ghosh and SSP Manoj Kumar reached the spot and were camping there till the filing of the report.
Confirming the incident, SSP Manoj Kumar said the situation was under control.
