MUMBAI: Locals rescued a horse from a drain after an hour-long operation in Palghar on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at around 8am, when the horse was walking on the cement footpath at Gothapur area of Palghar city. The horse slipped into a gap between two slabs on the drain that flows below the footpath. On hearing the screams of the animal, locals and morning walkers rushed to the spot.
Initially, a group of locals tried to pull out the horse physically.
But when that failed, they called a JCB for assistance.
A portion of the footpath was demolished to allow the animal to jump out. The iron rods in the slabs made the rescue operation difficult.
Eyewitnesses said that the horse was tired when pulled out and it stayed alongside the footpath for a while before it left.
Locals said that several complaints made to the Palghar Municipal Council to fix the gap went unheard. People, especially students use the footpath regularly.
