Nearly 55 injured as driver loses control over bus in Maharashtra's Palghar
At around 6.45 am near Jambul Pada in Wada, the driver of the speeding bus V P Jadhav allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
MUMBAI: Around 55 passengers, mostly college students, sustained injuries after the driver of the state transport bus in which they were travelling, lost control of the vehicle and the bus jumped off the road at Wada taluka of Palghar district here on Tuesday morning.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus was headed from Pivli village in Wada to the Wada city. The bus was transporting around 40 students of Swami Vivekanand College in Wada.
Another 12 to 14 other passengers were also in the bus.
At around 6.45 am near Jambul Pada in Wada, the driver of the speeding bus V P Jadhav allegedly lost control of the vehicle. As the road was slippery due to rains, the driver tried to control the bus but it went off the road and landed alongside a pit.
Passengers, including students sustained injuries on the head and limbs. A few of them even sustained fractures.
The passengers and the driver have been admitted to the government hospital in Wada where they are said to be stable.
Students take this bus to get to their colleges everyday. They alleged that the driver was speeding even though the road was wet and slippery.
A few students had fallen asleep and were woken up with the bus swinging from right to left. Students began screaming as the driver tried to control the bus from toppling.
