Section 144 imposed in 10 Muzaffarpur villages

Muzaffarpur district administration on Tuesday noon imposed Section 144 of CrPC in 10 villages under Kanti and Karja police stations in Muzaffarpur district following violent clashes between members of two communities on Monday morning.

MUZAFFARPUR: Muzaffarpur district administration on Tuesday noon imposed Section 144 of CrPC in 10 villages under Kanti and Karja police stations in Muzaffarpur district following violent clashes between members of two communities on Monday morning.
Sources said the decision to impose Section 144 was taken as tension prevailed in Damodarpur and its adjoining areas for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
Security arrangements have also been beefed up in these areas to foil any untoward incident. Sub-divisional magistrate (west) Anil Kumar Das said, “Prohibitory orders were imposed after assessing the situation. Though the situation is tense, it is under control. More security personnel have been deployed in areas like Damodarpur, Chakmurmur, Shahpur (Kanti), Sonbarsa, Chiknauta, Panapur Khurd, Shahpur (Karja), Shubhankarpur, Fardo Pul and Barmatpur,” the SDM said.
He added that prohibitory orders will remain in effect till 6 am on August 15. “Under this prohibitory order, assembly of five persons or more will be illegal and they will be arrested under suitable laws of CrPC and IPC,” he said.
Earlier, nearly 15 persons, including policemen, were injured in a violent clash at Damodarpur village on Monday over playing of DJ music on loud sound. Meanwhile, some people from one group in the incident tried to create ruckus at Bairia roundabout of Ahiapur police station on Tuesday morning. They disrupted vehicular traffic on Muzaffarpur-Hajipur, Muzaffarpur-Motihari and Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga sections putting road blockade on NH-28, 57 and 77.
They were demanding immediate actions against people from another group, who allegedly pelted stones on kanwariyas set their vehicles ablaze after ransacking them. Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar said armed security forces have been deployed at 12 sensitive places with magistrates. “We have also lodged FIRs against erring persons. Three persons had been taken into custody but they were released on personal bond,” he said.
The SSP added that another FIR has been lodged against seven persons with the Town police station for circulating hate statements and derogatory pictures on social media accounts after the incident.
