Revoke fake cases against Sonbhadra villagers: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Priyanka meets families of those killed in violence in Sonbhadra
SONBHADRA: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said the Yogi Adityanath government should revoke fake cases lodged against 90 villagers, including women, in connection with the land dispute that led to the massacre in Sonbhadra.
Talking to reporters after meeting the family members of those killed in the July 17 bloodbath, Priyanka said: “The BJP government should take responsibility of solving the issue as these (cases) are adding to the trauma of those who are already facing problems for so many years.”
During her visit to Umbha village, Priyanka met the family members of the massacre victims in an open pandal at a primary school after which women huddled around her SUV.

Priyanka went to the house of Ramrati and met her children and in-laws. She also visited six other families and ate ‘kheer’ and asked for a glass of water at one house.
Nandlal, who lost her son in the massacre, said: “She asked me how are we coping with our problems and whether we have received the compensation amount or not. She also assured us help.”
Reacting to UP deputy CM Dinesh Sharma calling her visit a political stunt, she said, “The BJP is in the habit of blaming Congress for everything that goes wrong. They should focus on applying balm on the wounds of the people.”
Sharma had targeted Priyanka saying she should go to Sonbhadra and repent for the misdeeds of Congress leaders who had grabbed land.

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati accused Congress and SP of shedding crocodile tears over the Sonbhadra massacre and said that the land tilled by the tribals was usurped under their regimes.
“The tribals of Sonbhadra have said that land mafia from Congress and SP usurped their land. Instead of shedding crocodile tears over this incident, Congress and SP leaders should come forward to ensure that the tribals get their land back,” she said.
“The BJP government should take strict action in the case and ensure that the land of tribals is returned to them,” she added.
BJP also attacked Priyanka and said she should have expressed remorse on the fraudulent land dealings during Congress regime. “The land dispute started during Congress regime. Her visit is nothing short of a drama to divert people’s attention,” said UP BJP spokesperson, Chandra Mohan.
