It was one of the most famous moments in sporting history. The World Snooker Final in April, 1985 - which saw world champion Steve Davis take on Dennis Taylor - was watched on TV by a staggering 18.5 million people.

And those who stayed up to watch the match, from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, could not have hoped for a more thrilling conclusion - when it came down to the final nail-biting frame.

And a shock upset was in store when Taylor made a comeback to snatch victory from the defending favourite - winning it on the very last ball, the black, after a total match time of total match time of just under 15 hours.

And - with Davis initially leading 14-11 then the pair equalising at 17-17 before the about-turn  - it made for thrilling TV in what was the early hours of a Monday morning, securing what remains a record audience for BBC2 and ensuring one of snooker's most memorable moments.

So, it's no surprise that those who watched the match back in the day haven't forgotten it - and news that the rival players will be back in action at the table no doubt will send snooker fans into a frenzy once again.

Steve Davis versus Dennis Taylor - The 1985 World Snooker Final is back by popular demand and will be hosted by The Playhouse, Whitley Bay on September 18.

With David Brown and Stan Chambers will be referees and markers, the two legends' final frame will be recreated but, in place of tension of the original, the audience will find that atmosphere this time is lighthearted with lots of comedy and laughter promised.

And fans are in for an extra treat as there's a meet-and-greet option and even a chance to play against one of the greats.

There will be a raffle and two winners will win a cue case as well as a frame against either Steve or Dennis.

Tickets for the event, which will begin at 7.30pm on the night, cost £20 while the VIP option, with the meet-and-greet taking place an hour earlier at 6.30pm, costs £50.
