ARARIA/PATNA: A five-year-old boy, who was allegedly sodomized by three of his neighbours in Araria district nearly four months ago, died on Monday due to injury sustained during the sexual assault. The child was being taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) when he died.
Though the assault took place in April, police were informed by the boy’s family only on Sunday evening over phone when the condition of the child deteriorated.
An FIR was lodged at the Ghurna police outpost on Tuesday after the boy's death based on a written complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Forbesganj SDPO Manoj Kumar said.
The victim’s mother told police that they couldn’t report the incident to police earlier due to pressure from the panchayat and the accused, who promised to bear the expenses of the boy’s treatment. The victim’s father was away in J&K when the incident took place.
Police arrested two of the three accused on Tuesday while they were about to leave for Jammu & Kashmir where they worked as labourers in an apple orchard. The accused — Mohammad Afroz and Mohammad Mannan — in their 20s, were produced before an Araria court, which remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days. All three accused work with the victim’s father in J&K and are known to the boy as they are from the same neighbourhood, police said.
The SDPO said the third accused Mohammad Surban could not be arrested as he is already in Jammu & Kashmir. The trio had allegedly sodomized the child after luring him to a nearby house.
The victim’s private parts were raptured and his condition deteriorated due to excess bleeding following which he was admitted to a local private hospital. Later the boy was taken to Nepal for treatment.
About two weeks ago after returning from Nepal, the boy complained of severe pain in his abdomen and was rushed to the Purnia sadar hospital. The doctors attending to the kid referred him to the PMCH, but he died on the way.

The SDPO said the police sent the body to Araria sadar hospital for autopsy. The accused have been booked under Sections 377, 201 and 34 IPC apart from Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012.
The SHO of Ghurna outpost Pawan Kumar Paswan said the post mortem report is awaited. “The victim’s family informed the police about the incident around 11 pm on Sunday. The next day an FIR was lodged and two of the accused were arrested,” the SHO told TOI over phone on Tuesday.
Devendra Mishra, former president of Araria district bar association, has demanded exemplary punishment for the accused for committing the heneious crime on a kid. He also descried the incident as barbaric and inhumane.
