BSY gives nod for Shivamogga airport
Bengaluru: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa doled out an Independence Day bonanza for the people of his home-district Shivamogga.
In a one-man cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Yediyurappa approved a proposal to develop a greenfield airport at Shivamogga at an estimated cost of Rs 38 crore. Chief secretary and principal secretaries of other departments attended the meeting.
Officials said the new airport will be operational in a year’s time and commercial operators like TruJet have already agreed to run flights.
“It’s being built solely on government investment,” said Kapil Mohan, principal secretary, infrastructure department. Mohan said 700 acres of land have already been acquired for the project and construction of the runway and terminal will begin soon. The cabinet also gave green signal to develop Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur railway line and administrative approval to fill up 66 tanks in Soraba taluk, Shivamogga, by lifting water from Varada river.
The cabinet decided to throw open Shivamogga district jail for public viewing on certain days.
Land for waste plant
20 acres of BBMP land in Kannahalli will be given on a 30 year lease to Sataram Enterprises Private Ltd to develop a solid waste treatment plant.
