BENGALURU: After a day's lull, rain returned with force in Malnad and the coastal districts on Wednesday, prompting the Met office to sound a red alert in the five districts till Friday.
In its forecast, IMD predicted moderate to heavy rainfall ranging between 100mm and 205mm for the next 48 hours in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts of Malnad, and Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
Fishermen were asked not to go to sea or rivers for three days. Independence Day will be marked in a simple manner, district authorities said.
Five bodies were found in Hassan and Kodagu on Wednesday, taking the toll to 64.
