NEW DELHI: With the arrest of three persons, the Crime Branch has solved the case of a robbery that took place at Connaught Place last week. While two robbers were arrested from their hideouts in outer Delhi, the gun-runner, who had supplied them the weapons, was arrested from near the Akshardham temple. A cache of firearms was seized from them.
“We had formed a team to nab the criminals, and they were tracked to different locations in outer Delhi.
While Pawan Pona was nabbed near Narela, Sandeep was caught from a nearby location,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Rajiv Ranjan. Their accomplice Vijay is still on the run.
During interrogation, the arrested accused told the cops that Vijay had informed them about large amount of cash being moved by the exchanger from the Connaught Place office. They subsequently procured weapons and waylaid the man near his office and tried of rob him at gunpoint. But their plan was foiled by the alert public.
Shamshuddin, who supplied weapons to them, was arrested from near the Akshardham temple. Five pistols and 15 rounds were seized from him. He used to supply weapons to the local criminals. He was earlier arrested by the special cell for gun-running and his involvement in a murder. After being released from jail earlier this year, he had shifted base to Mathura. However, he continued to supply pistols to criminals. Pawan was also arrested 11 times in the past.
All the three have been booked under IPC section and sent to judicial custody. Efforts are on to nab their accomplice Vijay.
