UP police constable arrested for killing Mathura shopkeeper

AGRA: Two days after a shopkeeper succumbed to his injuries after being beaten up by a police constable for Rs 5 in UP's Mathura district, the cop was arrested on Thursday for culpable homicide.
The accused identified as Yogendra Chaudhary had allegedly thrashed Rahul Bansal following a dispute over payment for non-payment of a Gutka that the he had bought from the victim’s shop. Bansal died 24 hours later while being treated in an Agra hospital.
However, the victim's family was not satisfied with the development and demanded registration of a murder case against the accused cop currently posted at Firozabad.
The family members along with local residents blocked the Dhauli-Piyuau road by putting Rahul’s body on road.

The deceased’s family members also demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation along with job for a kin of the victim from the administration. Local administration assured them to forward their demand to higher officials for approval.
Mathura City magistrate, Manoj Kumar Singh, who visited the family members on Thursday, said that the administration will try to fulfill their demands.
On August 13, the constable, visited a makeshift shop run by the victim in Mathura, to buy a gutkha pack worth Rs 5. When Bansal asked for money, the constable refused to pay and thrashed him following a heated exchange. The accused cop called Mathura police and both were taken to the highway police station, where the victim started feeling uneasy.

According to victim’s elder brother Amit, his family members also reached the police station and took him to a private hospital, but they refused to admit his brother as his condition was serious. They immediately took him to another private hospital in Mathura, where doctors told them after diagnosis that the victim sustained severe head injuries and there was a blood clot. Later, the family members took him to a hospital in Agra for better treatment, where he succumbed to injuries the next day.
The victim’s aunt Payal Agarwal alleged that not only the constable Yogendra, but police personnel at highway police station also beat up her nephew at police station. She said police should also take action against the other policemen.
