SCHOOL RATINGS – Four Wise County school districts earned A’s in the Texas Education Accountability ratings released Thursday morning. Alvord, Chico, Northwest and Paradise earned the top scores in the second year that the state assigned letter grades to districts. The state also released individual letter grades to campuses for the first time this year. Paradise High School and Paradise Intermediate were the only campuses in the county to earn A’s. Only 19.8 percent of campuses in the state received A’s. Boyd, Bridgeport, Decatur and Slidell earned B’s in the ratings. One campus, Boyd Elementary, received an F. Boyd Intermediate and Decatur’s Rann and Young elementaries had D’s.

FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGES – Most Wise County football teams will hold their first scrimmages tonight. Alvord will scrimmage Sacred Heart at home. Decatur heads to Saginaw. Chico travels to Millsap. Boyd will be at Godley. Paradise welcomes in Lindsay. Bridgeport will take part in a three-way scrimmage with Waxahachie Life and Life Oak Cliff Saturday.

LOST BATTALION REUNION – The annual Lost Battalion Reunion is this weekend in Decatur. This reunion has been held each year since the end of WWII after members of the Lost Battalion were liberated from their POW camps. It has been attended by surviving members of the Battalion, their spouses and the children and grandchildren of Battalion members. The public is invited to attend the annual Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the G.C. Rann Auditorium of the Wise County Heritage Museum, 102 S. Trinity St. in Decatur.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Bridgeport Historical Society will meet 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Lion’s Club Building in Bridgeport. Nell Ann McBroom, executive director of Tales ‘N Trails Museum in Nocona, will talk about North Texas Indian Tribes.

MOVIES IN THE PARK – The Boyd Municipal Development District will present the next “Movies in the Park” event 7:30 Saturday night at Snodgrass Park. “Mary Poppins Returns” will be shown. Admission is free. Concessions are available for purchase, benefiting the Class of 2021.

DAR MEETING – The John B. Denton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its next meeting 10 a.m. Saturday at the home of Joyce Ogle. For directions or more information call Ogle at 940-577-1290.

CLEAR THE SHELTER – Clear the Shelter, a nationwide pet adoption event, is Saturday at the Bridgeport Animal Shelter, 142 FM 920 near the water treatment plant. Dogs and cats will be available for adoption from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Some adoptions may be sponsored.

BENEFIT – A fundraiser benefiting More Precious Than Rubies Ministry is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday on the Chico Square. The ministry helps homeless women and children in Wise County. The event will feature an auction, food, children’s games, and proceeds will help nine children, seven that are school age. They are in need of clothes and school supplies, and donations are requested. For information call Emily Palmer at 940-255-1596.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Donnie Howard Cockrell, 64, of Alvord is 10 a.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur.

SERVICE for Adrian Maurisio-Padilla, 46, of Rhome is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

GRAVESIDE for Carl Anthony Spanglo Jr., 85, of Chico is 2 p.m. today Chico Cemetery. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Henry “Hank” Strand, 81, of Runaway Bay is 11 a.m. today at Twin Oaks Assembly of God in Bridgeport with burial at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville. Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Emma Ruth Jones, 87, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at Balsora Baptist Church with burial at Willow Point Cemetery near Bridgeport. Hudson & Torres is handling arrangements.
