Church notes: Events at local churches in the coming days

Washington County

First United Methodist Church in Springdale, 206 W. Johnson Ave., will soon begin fall Bible studies, called Grow First.

Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center at 206 W. Johnson Ave. Studies begin Aug. 28 and will conclude Nov. 20. The evening will start with dinner and fellowship and then break into groups for study.

Childcare is provided as well as programming for kids and youth. All are welcome to attend.

Benton County

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., is offering Griefshare Classes beginning on Aug. 29. There will be an orientation "short" class on Aug. 22, and the group will meet at 3 p.m. each Thursday, completing the 13 weeks of study on Nov. 22. Call the church office to sign up.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon and is in need of unsweetened cereal.

The Men's Bible class meets every Monday at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Please park in the rear parking lot and enter the lower level.

The Sonday Riders meet at 2 p.m. Sunday. All two-, three- and four-wheel vehicles are welcome to join in for a fun ride, food and fellowship.

On Aug. 25, Bella Vista Lutheran Church will lead the service at Concordia at 3 p.m.

"Different Strokes for Different Folks" will meet at 2 p.m. Aug. 27. This is a support group for those who have had a stroke or other traumatic brain injury.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rogers, 905 S. 13th St., hosts a Gospel Sing at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 1, led by Minister of Music Jeff Murdock. A brunch will follow the service.

Murdock also leads the University of Arkansas Inspirational Chorale, and the church benefits from his chorale sharing choir duties on special days. At 9:30 a.m. Sept. 22, the Inspirational Chorale will journey to Rogers to put on a wonderful performance of praise in the choir loft.

Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rogers, 2305 S. Dixieland Road, hosts upcoming events including church council at 7 p.m. Aug. 21; and a Bible study on Christian doctrine at 7 p.m. Aug. 28. All meetings are at the church.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., invites the public to an evening of music and fellowship at 6 p.m. Aug. 22. Christian country western and Southern gospel singer Cliff Shelder will perform, with homemade ice cream served after the concert. Call the church office to make reservations.

Bible Study at noon Aug. 28 will focus on Honoring Our Neighbor's Faith: A Lutheran Perspective on Faith Traditions in America by Robert Buckley Farlee. Hundreds of Christian denominations and dozens of non-Christian traditions have followers in the United States. How do we view this wide variety of beliefs and practices? How does the Lutheran tradition compare with others? This book includes statistics, tools for group study and discussion, and updated resource and website lists to facilitate further study.

Rally Day is planned for 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 8. This event is free, and all are welcome to attend.

Unitarian Universalists of Benton County, 1400 W. Walnut, No. 113, Rogers, presents the homily delivered by the Rev. Jim Parrish of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Unity Church of the Ozarks, 12 McKissick Creek Road, Suite 1210, Bentonville, will host a one-hour workshop, "Dreams Arising: Release Your Souls Expression," presented by Debra DeVilbis, at 12:45 p.m. Aug. 25. Suggested love offering is $25.

Village Bible Church in Bella Vista, 1591 Forest Hills Blvd., opens the Oasis Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 21. This ministry is available to anyone in the area who needs help with groceries and would appreciate the compassion and encouragement of friendly volunteers. A potluck fellowship dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, and the community is always welcome. At 6:30 p.m. there will be singing, devotions and prayer in the Worship Center. Infant and toddler nursery and Children's Church for kids are offered as well.

The Ladies' Prayer Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 24.

Carroll County

A Bible Reading Marathon will begin with community praise and worship from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds in Berryville.

From Aug. 25 to Aug. 31, there will be daily Bible reading at the fairgrounds. Hours are 1-9 p.m. Aug. 25 and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 26-31.

The 10th annual event is hosted by Bible Reading Ministry International.
