Jamie Oliver reveals collapse of his restaurants was 'very painful'

Jamie Oliver has said the collapse of his restaurant business was “very, very painful”.

The celebrity chef’s restaurant chain suffered 22 closures and about 1,000 redundancies.

Among them was Jamie’s Italian in Cardiff which shut in May after the chain went into administration.

Since then, plans by the Harry’s brand to replace it with another Italian were withdrawn just hours after they were made public and the site on The Hayes remains empty.

He said that despite the pain of watching two decades of work crumble, he has no regrets about an approach to the restaurant trade which “employed loads of people” but was difficult to sustain

'I woke up with a stiff neck, hours later I was paralysed'

A young and healthy woman had her whole life turned upside down when she was left paralysed by a rare virus.

Helen Finchman was just 21 years old when she became paralysed from a rare condition called transverse myelitis.

The now 24-year-old had spent the day before her sudden collapse with her niece at Porthcawl beach.

She woke up with a stiff neck and put it down to sleeping in an awkward position.

A few hours later, Helen was lying on her bed with what she thought was a tight chest.

Helen’s condition affects around 300 people a year, and it is a neurological disorder caused by inflammation in the spinal cord.

There is a chance manufacturing jobs may be on their way to Bridgend

A billionaire is in advanced talks to build thousands of cars and potentially create hundreds of jobs in Bridgend, according to reports.

Ineos Automotive, which is owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe - the richest man in the UK according to last year’s Sunday Times Rich List - has been in discussions to build their new 4x4 vehicle in south Wales for time.

The Mail on Sunday is reporting that production will take place at a plant next to the Ford factory in the town, which is set to close in 2020.

If Ineos does set up in Bridgend, it will represent a huge boost for an area which is set to lose 1,700 jobs when the Ford plant closes next autumn.

The man with a bomb in his garage that earned him a knock on the door from the FBI

It was back in 2014, not long before Barack Obama flew into Newport as part of the Nato Wales summit, that Llewelyn Pritchard got a knock on the door.

Men in dark suits belonging to the American secret service had somehow heard about his ever-growing arsenal of World War Two weaponry and, given that the 44th President’s helicopter was soon scheduled to pass by overhead, decided to check out the contents of his barn.

“They – the FBI or whoever they were – took one look at my anti-aircraft gun over there in the corner and told me, politely but very firmly, that if it moved an inch outside of these four walls I’d know about it,” says the 71-year-old with a laugh.
