AURANGABAD: Angered over wife continuously suspecting her husband’s character and nagging him about it, the man allegedly murdered her on Saturday noon, before walking to the police station and surrendering himself.
Identified as Nazneen (35), the deceased was a resident of Kasam Barri Dargah area of Padegaon on the outskirts of the city. The police had initially detained the accused, Shaikh Osman, after his confession.
However, they registered a case against him and arrested him later after they confirmed the incident.
The police said that the couple was married for over a decade and were staying in the area for past five years. The man is an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. Their minor children stayed with the man’s parents in Town Hall area of the city.
Citing the statement made by Osman, the police said that he was disturbed over being nagged by his wife every now and then. His wife would get into heated arguments by raising questions over his character, police said.
The man told the police that his wife would often ask him about his extra-martial affairs and would often quarrel with him if he got late from work.
On Saturday morning when Osman was waiting outside his house in search of passengers, a woman from their neighbourhood happen to pass by him and the two exchanged glances. On seeing Osman looking at another woman, his wife got furious and fought with him. Angered over it, Osman lost his cool and strangulated his wife with a piece of rope.
After killing his wife, Osman locked the house and drove to the Cantonment area police station. He informed them about the incident and also handed over his house keys to them.
The police investigated the crime scene and transferred the body to the Government Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
