Police are investigating a rape at a concert in Glasgow featuring The Foo Fighters.

The attack happened at Bellahouston Park where the US rockers performed in front of 35,000 people on Saturday night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “It is an ongoing incident. Enquiries are continuing, including a report of a 32-year-old woman having been sexually assaulted whilst attending an event in Bellahouston Park around midnight.”

A G4S insider described the woman’s ordeal as “harrowing” and said that a member of the security staff had called the police after finding the woman in distress.

He said: “A member of G4S found the woman and called police who arrived and dealt with a situation which sounded harrowing for this woman. The police set up a crime scene overnight though it was raining quite heavily.”

The attack took place in Bellahouston Park near Nithsdale Road

Police confirmed they were hunting attackers involved in a sexual assault in the park near the city’s Nithsdale Road and Dumbreck Road.

Officers had taped off the area on Saturday and made door-to-door enquiries as they sought witnesses.

One local said that he had been told by police of a second rape having taken place close to the Prince & Princess of Wales palliative care hospice, which is located in the park.

The man, who had been walking his dog in the park as the show was coming to an end, did not want to be identified, but told how he had disturbed and chased two men after hearing a woman screaming.

He said he came to a woman’s aid after hearing her screams coming from bushes inside the park perimeter.

He said: “I heard a woman scream and ran to the bushes.

“One man was standing by the bushes and another was inside the bushes where the woman was.

Around 70,000 music fans had packed Bellahouston Park for the Foo Fighters gig

“There was a cabin for G4S security staff nearby but they seemed unaware of what was happening so I chased the men.

“One of the men had been in the bushes and the other seemed to be keeping a look out. They both ran off.”

He claims that police told him of another rape in the park when they arrived on the scene.

A G4S spokesperson said: "G4S is supporting Police Scotland in their investigations."

A Summer Sessions spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of an incident which took place on the edge of Bellahouston Park following the event last night and will assist Police Scotland in their enquiries should it be required.”

The Foo Fighters concert is one of several Summer Sessions outdoor shows which have been staged in recent weeks.

The band, fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, played a two-and-a-half hour set on Saturday.
