AURANGABAD: Three unidentified conmen, posing as cops, duped an elderly woman of her gold bangles in the buzzling Aurangpura area of the city in broad daylight on Sunday. The incident has raised questions over the claims of increased police patrolling in the city.
The victim — Jaishri Rasiklal Gandhi (65) — said that she had a doctor’s appointment in Aurangpura. On the way back, she purchased vegetables and went to Mahavir temple for paying obeisance.
It was after she started walking her way to the auto-rickshaw stand, three men, claiming to be policemen, reached out to her and warned her from boarding the auto-rickshaws. They told her that the driver may rob her gold ornaments. The suspects offered her to help her in keeping the ornaments in the purse.
Falling prey to their trap, she handed them her gold bangles. While on her way home, she checked her purse, only to find it empty. Shocked, the woman lodged a complaint with the Kranti Chowk police station.
