KOLKATA: The state government is setting up a task force to bolster development in
Howrah city with focus on solid waste management, drinking water, improving sewer and drainage channels and prevent waterlogging.
Chief minister
Mamata Banerjee mooted the proposal at the Howrah administrative meeting on Monday in view of the chronic waterlogging and drinking water problems in the twin city.
The task force will include representatives from
Howrah Municipal Corporation and those from the state municipal affairs department. This task force will oversee the overall development of Howrah, including shifting of the district hospital.
“Howrah won’t get over waterlogging problems till there are open drains. We need to make way for underground drainage channels. At the same time, we have to address the drinking water problems without wasting time,” she said.
The task force will also give land clearance that often comes in the way of development works.
