PATNA: All constituent colleges and the university headquarters of Munger University will now use solar energy for all purposes right from illuminating offices to run equipment in science labs.
The Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) has surveyed all sites to be equipped with the solar power. Vice chancellor Ranjit Verma said it was a new initiative to harness solar power for campuses and it will help to save the university's fund used for paying electricity bill.
"BREDA will make everything required for it available," he added.
Registrar Col Vijay Kumar Thakur said, "In the first phase, solar power will be given to 17 constituent colleges in five districts-Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Khagaria and Jamui-besides the university headquarters. There will be an arrangement to provide surplus solar power to the power distribution agency of BSEB, which will adjust its cost in the regular electricity bill sent to the university."
