BIHARSHARIF: Nalanda Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) principal judge Manvendra Mishra on Monday ordered a juvenile convict who had abducted a girl, to campaign against mob lynching in Deepnagar police station area for two months.
This will be done under the supervision of Deepnagar police station house officer as a pre-condition for his release after a few cases of mob lynching took place in the district in recent times.
The juvenile convict, who had kidnapped a girl from Deepnagar police station area in 2013 with the intention of marrying her, has been ordered by the judge to ask residents of the locality to ignore rumours and verify identity of person (s) involved in spreading rumours, especially about child lifting.
The juvenile has also been tasked to request the residents not to silently watch a crowd beating an individual or a group of persons but act as responsible citizens and immediately inform the police. Additional public prosecutor Rajesh Kumar Pathak said, “The juvenile convict aged around 17 is pursuing his intermediate studies.”
Earlier, a mob had lynched two persons, including a minor after a political leader was found killed near his house at Maghra village in January this year. Police have so far arrested 38 of 73 persons made accused in this connection. Nalanda SP Nilesh Kumar said all accused in the case would be arrested.
Besides, the district police recently rescued four persons from being lynched by a crowd at Rahui after they were caught on the suspicion of being child-lifters. Three of them hailed from Madhya Pradesh and were involved in trade of small wooden furniture. In a recent case, the JJB judge also ordered a juvenile convict to spread the message of gender justice at Sohsarai locality in Biharsharif under the supervision of Sohsarai police station house officer for a month.
The juvenile, a resident of Sohsarai locality, and presently a student of BA part-II, had shot and critically injured a woman and an onlooker at Sohsarai in July, 2013. A member of JJB Dharmendra Kumar also gave his approval to the order.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
