Bihar: Saran district board chairperson among 7 booked for killing SI, constable

Police on Wednesday lodged an FIR against seven persons, including Saran’s district board chairperson Meena Arun, for alleged involvement in attacking a police team travelling in an SUV and killing a sub-inspector and a constable after opening fire on them at Marhaura Market of Saran district in Bihar at around 7pm on Tuesday. One constable Rajnish Kumar was in serious condition after suffering bullet injuries.

PATNA: Police on Wednesday lodged an FIR against seven persons, including Saran’s district board chairperson Meena Arun, for alleged involvement in attacking a police team travelling in an SUV and killing a sub-inspector and a constable after opening fire on them at Marhaura Market of Saran district in Bihar at around 7pm on Tuesday. One constable Rajnish Kumar was in serious condition after suffering bullet injuries.
The FIR was lodged with Marhaura police station in Saran on basis of statement given by a sub-inspector Vikash Kumar.
He was also inside the police SUV, which had come under attack of criminals, but had managed to survive unhurt.
Altogether two SIs and four constables were travelling in the SUV when they were intercepted by criminals travelling in another SUV. The criminals had opened fire on the police vehicle after overtaking the vehicle.
Criminals had also looted an AK-47 assault rifle and two 9mm pistols after killing sub-inspector Mithilesh Sah and constable Mohammad Farookh. It was Farookh who was carrying the assault rifle.
DGP Gupteshwar Pandey told TOI over phone that Arun was booked as a regular revolver issued on her name was recovered from the killing spot.
A senior police officer, privy to the investigation made till now, told TOI preferring anonymity that five live cartridges were loaded inside the chambers of the regular revolved while one bullet was fired.
“Six empty cartridges fired by criminals were recovered from spot. More cartridges would be found after the waterlogging from the spot gets cleared. All the cartridges recovered till now are generally used in regular weapon,” he said.

He said that none of the police personnel got chance even to understand the situation.
“While at least ten criminals had reached the spot on SUV, more than ten had reached the spot on at least five to six bikes separately. The criminals attacked the policemen with butt of firearms with them and then opened fire targeting them,” he said.
The officer said that Sah, Farookh and others didn’t even got time to take position with arms that time.
“When criminals had attacked the police team, Vikash had alighted the vehicle due to which he did not came in line of fire,” he said.
The officer said Sah had received two gunshot injuries while Farookh had received one gunshot injury, resulting their immediate death.
