Polish game developer CD Projekt RED showed off a bunch of new screenshots at Gamescom this week. The screens include images of the futuristic urban world, its colorful denizens, sleek vehicles and lively locales.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the studio's first AAA release since the launch of The Witcher 3 back in May of 2015. That game is headed to the Nintendo Switch (somehow) on October 15th of this year.

So far, Cyberpunk 2077 looks terrific, though I do worry about it being in first-person, in part because I liked the third-person aspect of The Witcher games (I like to be able to see my character in an RPG0 and in part because so far I haven't been wowed by examples of the game's shooting gameplay. Hopefully my fears are put to rest by launch.

Besides, the game looks fantastic in every other respect. The city is vibrant and alive. Keanu Reeves is one of the game's main characters, playing an NPC named Johnny Silverhand. I have a great deal of faith in CDPR's storytelling abilities, and this remains one of my most-anticipated games of 2020, a year that's shaping up to be pretty stupendous as far as video games are concerned.

Okay, so let's take a look at all these new screenshots. We'll start with a couple Nvidia posted to show of that company's "ray tracing" tech, which creates more realistic lighting "by tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects" according to Wikipedia:

You'll notice the excellent lighting and contrast in both these shots. That's ray tracing at work.

I'm not sure if the rest of these shots are taken with ray tracing enabled, but they look quite pretty regardless. Or ugly, as the case may be . . .

UPDATE: According to CDPR and Nvidia, these are all taken with ray-tracing enabled.
