SASARAM: A 45-year-old man detained for his alleged role in a tractor theft was found hanging inside the police lockup at Indarpuri police station of Rohtas district late on Tuesday night.
Shrikant Singh committed suicide by hanging himself using his shirt and shoe laces, police claimed. The deceased’s minor son Gaurav Singh (15), who was also taken in custody, alleged that his father was beaten to death by the cops and detained illegally because of his enmity with a local choukidar.
Family members of the deceased created a ruckus outside the police station as well as at the Sasaram Sadar hospital, holding the police responsible for the death.

Rohtas SP Satyaveer Singh admitted to a security lapse on the part of the personnel at the police station and said that action will be taken against errant police officials after SDPO Dehri-on-sone files a probe report. He also said he has requested the Rohtas district judge to appoint a judicial officer to probe the case.
