Gujarat: Muslims demand MIM to step in State politics

Gujarat: The Muslims of Gujarat are in search of an alternative to Congress after the party adopted ‘soft Hindutva’ stand in the State.

According to the report published in Deccan Chronicle, many Muslim groups approached MIM leadership and requested the party to set up its branches in the State and fight in the municipal elections to be held in February 2020.

Zuber Gopalni, Vice President of All India Majlis-E-Mushavarat alleged that Congress is avoiding to stand with the Muslims. He also said that the ‘Soft Hindutva’ policy of Congress hurt the community.

Some of the Muslim youths claimed that neither the Congress nor the BJP is interested in them.

Abdul Qayum Shaikh of Bazme-Ittihad, Vadodara said that there is a need for separate the identity for the Muslims and other backward groups.

Despite many requests from various groups, MIM President, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi declined to comment on it.

Will Muslims get benefited from MIM’s entry into State politics?

Although, MIM has not yet decided to expand the party in Gujarat, the question arises, ‘will Muslims get benefited from the party’s entry into the state politics or will it divide the secular votes?’.

It may be noted that in the recently held Parliamentary Elections, in many constituencies, secular votes got divided due to one or the other reason.
