Approximately 50 cars remain stuck in a Quincy parking garage after a dump truck filled with gravel fell through the roof Wednesday, police said.

The truck driver entered the garage around 11:30 a.m. and was trying to turn around on the top level when its weight caused a collapse, Quincy Police Det. Sgt. Karyn Barkas said. No one was injured in the incident.

The driver told police that he noticed he was driving along a no-truck route and in his attempt to exit his GPS app directed him to enter the garage, Barkas said.

The truck was removed by a crane around 4 a.m. Thursday, but the cars in the garage are stuck there until officials can build a wall to block the hole and install structural supports, said Barkas.

“Hopefully sometime late this afternoon they’ll get those vehicles out,” Barkas said.

Barkas said that businesses at 1261 Furnace Brook Parkway and 234 Copeland St. were also closed because of the incident, but officials were hoping to open them back up Thursday.

The truck driver is not currently facing charges, though the incident is under investigation, Barkas said.
