A terrible crash involving at least 6 vehicles took place in south London, U.K., last night and police are investigating to see if street racing was involved.
As a result of the crash, a 25-year-old man, believed to be one of the two drivers, is in critical condition at the hospital. The other driver is cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation, and a woman of the same age was treated and released for minor injuries, The Sun reports.
The crash occurred at the High Street in Chislehurs, south London, and involved a speeding Jaguar F-Type and an Audi A5. The Audi smashed into a lamppost, which ended up embedded into the car. The Jaguar went through a flower bed and then ripped a metal bollard, when the driver lost control and came off the road.
Four other cars were wrecked in the accident: a Nissan Qashqai, a Volkswagen, a Volvo XC90 and a Porsche Cayenne. Eyewitnesses describe the scene as resembling a “bomb site:” one of the cars ended up on the side, while other 3 received significant damage because they were on the path of destruction caused by the out of control Jaguar and Audi.
The investigation is still underway, and police are urging all those who have witnessed the crash or have more details about it to come forward to help. For the time being, authorities would only confirm the incident and the condition of the hospitalized driver, refraining from saying whether it was caused because the two drivers were street racing. However, at this point, it’s a likely possibility.
Earlier this month, a similar crash occurred when a “boy racer” in an Audi Q7 chased after a Porsche and lost control on a crowded residential street in the Chelsea neighborhood in London. He took out 8 other cars, with initial estimates of the damages caused pinned at £500,000 ($606,000).
