Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the Indian community at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France where he talked over a number of issues including the mandate of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, climate change and building a ‘New India’ that focuses on ease of doing business while ensuring ease of living. He also said that India will achieve most of the climate change goals set for 2030, in the next year and a half.

The PM also talked over the friendship between the two countries. “The relationship between India and France is hundreds-years old. Our friendship is not based on selfishness, but on solid ideals of ‘Liberty, Equality and Fraternity’,” he said. Talking about the BJP’s massive mandate in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister said, “I want to tell you that India is now surging ahead, the mandate we got is not merely for running a govt but for building a new India.”

He also said, “In new India, the way in which action is being taken against corruption, dynasty politics, loot of people’s money, terrorism, this has never happened before. Within 75 days of the new govt coming to power, we took many strong decisions.”

Modi embarks for UAE from Paris

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday embarked for Abu Dhabi from here after successfully concluding his France tour during which he held bilateral meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and premier Edouard Philippe. Modi's visit to the UAE capital Abu Dhabi is part of his three-nation tour to France, UAE and Bahrain.

"India-France bilateral relations have gone from strength to strength. After the successful conclusion of the first leg of his 3-country visit, PM @narendramodi embarks for Abu Dhabi," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

During his visit to the UAE, Modi will discuss bilateral, regional and international matters of mutual interest with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and also formally launch RuPay card to expand the network of cashless transactions abroad. He will also receive the 'Order of Zayed', the highest civilian decoration conferred by the UAE government. (PTI)

PM inaugurates memorial in honour of victims of 2 Air India crashes in France

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated a memorial in the honour of the victims of two Air India crashes at the foothills of the Mont Blanc mountain in France in which several Indians, including Homi J Bhabha, regarded as the father of India's nuclear programme, were killed.

The memorial at Nid d'Aigle, at the foot of Mount Blanc, was dedicated to Bhabha and several other Indians who were among the passengers and crew of the two Air India planes that crashed in 1950 and 1966. (PTI)

Banned triple talaq to give justice to Muslim women in new India: Modi

PM Modi said that his government did away with the practice of triple talaq "as injustice cannot be done to Muslim women in new India".

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights of Marriage) Bill, 2019, which makes the practice of instant triple talaq a penal offence, and for which ordinances were issued three times, was cleared by Parliament in July this year.

This is the reason that once again the countrymen have supported our government by giving a more powerful mandate."
