MUZAFFARPUR: Muzaffarpur police will soon install global positioning system (GPS) devices on all its vehicles for better policing. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manoj Kumar said the decision to install GPS on police vehicles has been taken following a directive of the state police headquarters.
“The police headquarters has directed to keep a close watch on police officials who are not performing their duties well.
Once, the device is installed on vehicles, their locations can be monitored easily,” the SSP said.
He added that the installation will be done in several phases. “We have installed GPS devices on 16 vehicles belonging to different police stations and mobile and patrolling vehicles as of now. A control room has been set up at Saraiyaganj surveillance centre to keep a close watch on these vehicles. If any laxity or irregularities are found, the SHOs concerned or their seniors will be informed immediately to take action,” Manoj said.
The police headquarters has also set up separate teams led by DSP-rank officers to inspect police stations in Muzaffarpur. “Altogether 12 DSPs have been assigned by the CID for inspection of police stations. The officers will visit all police stations in the district. The team will collect information about the prevailing situation of cases, including arresting, progress of investigation, pending cases and number of chargesheets filed among others,” the SSP said.
The Muzaffarpur SSP said that all SHOs in the district have been directed to update records in the wake of setting up of the inspection team. “I have asked the SHOs to submit the latest and updated dossiers of criminals in their respective jurisdiction soon,” he said.
