NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old businessman was shot in front of his six-year-old son in southeast Delhi’s Okhla Mandi on Friday evening. The victim, Fazlu Rehman, was returning from his sister’s house with his son on their Scooty when they were attacked.
Police received information at 10pm about a man lying in a pool of blood. A police team reached the spot and shifted both Rehman and the boy, who was unhurt, to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where the man was declared dead, while the kid was sent for counselling.
Police said the body was handed over to his family after autopsy on Saturday and a case under Section 302 (murder) registered at the Amar Colony police station.

Later, the boy narrated the incident to the cops and said three of them, including his father’s friend, were returning from his aunt’s house. When they reached Okhla Mandi, the friend got off at his house for some work, while the two of them waited outside. At this point, two men wearing helmets stopped next to their Scooty, and after a brief interaction, one of them pulled out a gun and fired two rounds at Rehman. The second bullet went through his neck. As he fell off the Scooty, the assailants fled.
Based on the six-year-old’s statement, cops have launched a hunt for the two suspects. Though no arrests have been made so far, cops suspect the murder to be the fallout of personal enmity.
