What's on TV: Friday, 30 August

Dark Money

ABC, 9.35pm

This is not one for those seeking a light Friday night watch. A deep dive into the moral murk of showbusiness, it's one of those shows that casts a critical eye on the industry that spawned it, which is either refreshing self-awareness or a clever double-bluff to convince us that showbiz can't be all that bad if it's willing to exercise this level of introspection. Or maybe it's just a gripping drama. Dark Money follows 13-year-old Isaac, child star of a Hollywood film who suffered abuse at the hands of a producer, and whose parents accepted a Faustian bargain to keep it quiet. In this second episode, Isaac comes face-to-face with his abuser at the film's premiere. A troubling tale all the more disturbing for the echoes of real-life news stories that you can't help but pick up.
