PATNA: The Supaul police on Sunday launched a manhunt for a 60-year-old man who had allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of a minor girl on Friday.
Raghopur police station SHO Nagendra Kumar said on Sunday that an FIR has been lodged against one Ganesh Swarnkar on the statement of the victim’s mother on Saturday. “The victim’s medical examination was conducted by the doctor at Supaul sadar hospital.
The report is awaited,” the SHO said.
The girl’s mother, however, alleged that she was driven out of the police station when she had gone to lodge a formal complaint against the accused on Friday. The matter was raised at the meeting of the panchayat, which imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on the accused. The accused, however, refused to comply with the order of the panchayat.
The SHO said a police team has been asked to arrest the accused at the earliest. “What happened at the meeting of the panchayat is not known to me. Now the case is with the police and action will be taken as per the law,” he said, adding, “The accused has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act besides others.
No FIR in rape case: In another incident, a 15-year-old girl’s family is running from pillar to post to lodge an FIR against one Mohammad Imtiyaz, who allegedly raped the girl on August 21. “We submitted a petition to Chhatapur SHO but no action has been taken against the accused so far,” the survivor’s father said.
Chhatapur PS SHO Raghav Saran said police are conducting raids to nab the culprit, who is absconding. “A special police team has also been set up to arrest the accused,” the SHO added. TNN
