AURANGABAD: Sambhaji Govindrao Jadhav, the former Nanded district president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), committed suicide in the wee hours of Monday at his residence in the Taroda Naka area of Rajeshnagar — around 260km from here.
The 47-year-old was earlier a Shiv Sena activist and had joined the MNS after Raj Thackeray floated the party. He soon rose up the ranks, and was considered a confidante of the MNS chief.
Jadhav’s death came to light after his wife went to wake him up on the first floor of the house.
When she opened the door, Jadhav was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared “brought dead”. Jadhav’s body was handed over to the family after an autopsy. He is survived by his wife and two children.
According to police, Jadhav hails from a farmer family from Davar village, situated around 15km from Nanded. He had been staying in Nanded city for the past few years with his family. Jadhav was also involved in real estate business, and had been depressed for a while.
An officer privy to investigation said some of Jadhav’s relatives have said that personal reasons — including financial problems — had been bothering him. “Our focus is on ascertaining the exact reason that triggered him to take the extreme step,” the officer said.

A case of accidental death has been registered by the Bhagyanagar police station of Nanded city and a sub-inspector rank officer has been assigned the task to probe into the matter.
Sources said that police are also checking on the last person he spoke with over the phone and if the call had anything to do with Jadhav taking the extreme step.
Senior police officers refused to comment on the incident saying the probe is in its initial stage and the statements of the family members are yet to be recorded.
