HYDERABAD: It appears all is not well in TRS Karimnagar district unit. Infighting in the party came to the fore once again with health minister Eatala Rajender accusing that some party leaders were hatching a conspiracy against him.
Two months ago, former MLA from Ramagundam assembly constituency, Somarapu Satyanrayana, resigned and joined BJP after differences with party leaders, especially Korukanti Chander, who had won from assembly constituency as independent MLA and later joined TRS.
Similarly, former advisor G Vivekananda, who wanted to contest from Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency on TRS ticket, had differences with minister Koppula Eshwar and was denied ticket by TRS. He recently joined BJP.
Sources in TRS said almost every assembly constituency in the erstwhile Karimnagar district has two groups and created problems for the party leadership. TRS working president KT Rama Rao has been trying to resolve the issues from time to time. Interestingly, one of these group leaders are being supported by a close relative of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Eatala Rajender’s group now suspect that the same leader was behind the news reports against him on alleged leak of information on new Revenue Act.
Problems for Rajender began during 2018 assembly elections, and there were allegations against the minister by some party leaders that he tried to get the party ticket for former MLA Bodige Shobha from Choppadandi, though the party leadership denied it. Some leaders alleged that Rajender worked against the interest of the party during the election, which he denied vehemently.
Supporters of Eatala say some leaders tried to defeat him in 2018 elections from Huzurabad and succeeded in reducing his majority to 47,000 votes from 57,000 votes majority he had secured in 2014 assembly elections. “A smear campaign against Eatala was carried out during the elections by distributing pamphlets making corruption allegations against him. Similarly, youth leaders from the same constituency are being encouraged by some party leaders,” a supporter of Rajender said.
Party sources said differences in TRS are not confined to only one district. Many districts such as Khammam, Warangal, Mahbubnagar and Nizamabad are seeing intense groupism. “Some leaders are split between senior and juniors camps and some between old and new leaders. “The party chief has been getting reports on party leaders’ activities in every district and assembly constituency from time to time. He never tolerates indiscipline,” a senior TRS leader said.
