NASHIK: A 25-year-old security guard of a Nashik-based private college was arrested on Friday by the Sarkarwada police for allegedly clicking photographs of a lady professor in the washroom.
The guard, identified as Anil Pawar, was caught by the students and thrashed before being handed over to police. Pawar has been booked under section 354C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code.
Senior police inspector Hemant Somavanshi said the incident took place in the college at 8.30am.
“The ladies washroom is separated from the men’s washroom by a 9 foot wall partition, but there is no cover above it. When the professor went to the washroom she heard a mobile phone vibrating and when she looked around, she saw a mobile phone on the partition wall,” the officer said.
The professor then raised an alarm following which the guard ran out of the men’s washroom. He, however, was caught by students on the campus. The professor informed everyone that the guard had placed his cellphone in the washroom to click her photographs.
Following this, the situation on campus became violent and the guard was given a sound thrashing before police rushed to the spot and arrested him.
“The security guard had climbed over the wall. However, we did not find any photograph or video on his cellphone. The lady professor may have noticed the camera before he could take any picture or video. The suspect will be produced before a city court on Saturday,” Somavanshi further said.
Meanwhile, the professor was hesitant to lodge a complaint against the guard. Thus, a meeting of teaching and non-teaching staff was conducted, and a member of the staff lodged a complaint against Pawar at the police station.
