NASHIK: With rise in number of voters in Nashik, the District Election Office is mulling over increasing the numbers of election centres by more than 100.
During the recently held Lok Sabha elections when 2.10 lakh new voters where added to the electoral roll, the district administration had to add 274 election centres taking the total numbers of election centres then to 4,720 across the district.

On the complaints and objections raised by the voters after the Lok Sabha elections – about their names missing, or the names being included in some other area far off from their residence, etc, the Election Commission of India organised a special summary revision program for voters in the district.
After having done the exercise, the election machinery is now focusing on ensuring appropriate number of election centres to ensure better and appropriate facilities for the voters when they go for elections in the forthcoming state assembly elections.
As per the ECI guidelines, the numbers of voters per election centre in rural areas is limited to 1,200 while the same for the urban areas is 1,400.
Whenever there are more voters than the stipulated numbers, the election machinery has to create new election centres for the voters.
During the last elections addition of 2.10 lakh voters including 60,000 new voters had forced the election machinery to increase the number of polling stations.
A similar exercise will be carried out before the assembly elections as well, the DEO officials said.
