BIHARSHARIF: Doctors at all government health centres in Nalanda district, including Biharsharif sadar hospital, went on an indefinite strike on Saturday to protest Asthawan JD(U) MLA Jitendra Kumar’s alleged misbehaviour with Nalanda civil surgeon Dr Permanand Choudhry and other doctors.
According to sources, the three-term JD(U) legislator from Asthawan lost his cool on Saturday and scolded a doctor at Biharsharif sadar hospital after he refused to perform post mortem on a deceased JD(U) functionary, Vijendra Yadav, citing non-completion of formalities.

The MLA, on his part, said he did not misbehave with anyone and accused one Dr Pawan Kumar of Biharsharif sadar hospital of misbehaving with him when he had gone to the hospital to enquire about the status of post mortem of a party worker, who had died on Friday night. The MLA said he never forced anyone for an early post mortem. The doctor said he never asked any doctor to alter the post mortem report.
The striking doctors, on the other hand, said they would resume work only after the legislator tendered an unconditional apology.
Nalanda DM Yogendra Kumar Singh said he would speak to the officials concerned and try to find out an amicable solution to the issue.
