Police have arrested three youths on charges of throwing acid on the face of a 19-year-old girl in Araria district on Thursday. The girl, who had suffered 45% burn injuries, is undergoing treatment at a Patna hospital.

PATNA: Police have arrested three youths on charges of throwing acid on the face of a 19-year-old girl in Araria district on Thursday. The girl, who had suffered 45% burn injuries, is undergoing treatment at a Patna hospital.
Araria SDPO K D Singh said the girl, a BA second-year student, was supposed to get married in November. “We will ensure speedy trial in the case.
The girl will be produced in the judicial court to record her statement soon,” the SDPO said.
He added primary investigations revealed that one of the three accused had wanted to marry her. “When she refused, the youth and his two friends threw acid on her face,” the SDPO said. The girl was rushed to Araria sadar hospital from where she was referred to Purnia and then to the Patna hospital.
The three arrested youths were identified as Dipak Kumar Mandal, Ritesh Mandal and Nagendra Mandal.
The girl’s father told this newspaper on Saturday that he had lodged an FIR with Palasi police station in Araria district in connection with the case. “The three boys had thrown acid on the face of my daughter when she was talking to a relative over phone,” he said.
