Vice-principal held for spreading child-lifting rumours in Sitapur

LUCKNOW: Vice-principal of a government inter college under Atariya police station area was arrested by the Sitapur police for spreading child lifting rumours on Saturday. He has been arrested and also sent to the jail.
Sitapur police said that Rupesh Singh, a resident of Atariya works at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya Inter College.
According to the police, Singh spread a rumour that two children of primary classes were missing from last two days on Thursday and were probably fell victim to child-lifters.
He had also informed about the same to the principal of the college and other teachers. The rumour of children-lifting spread like wild fire in the locality.
“Some of the parents also stopped sending their children to school on Friday and some also informed police about the same,” said Ankit Kumar Singh, CO, Sidhauli.
A police team was sent to the Inter College to trace the missing children if any and made a through checking of the registers and found all children studying in the school present. Those absent were found to be at their homes. However, on Saturday again Rupesh came and started spreading the rumours, at which a complaint was made to police again.
Acting on which, SO, Atariya, Pushparaj Kushwaha reached the college and detained Rupesh. “A police team was again asked to check his claims and again found it to be untrue. As a result he was arrested,” added Kushwaha. He has been booked under the charges of statements conducing public mischief under (505) of the Indian Penal Code.
CO also added that if during probe it comes that Rupesh had intentionally spread the rumours of child-lifting then an NSA might also be invoked against him.
