BIHARSHARIF: Doctors at government health centres across Nalanda district including Biharsharif sadar hospital continued to boycott work for the second day on Sunday .
They went on an indefinite strike on Saturday after JD(U) MLA from Asthawan Jitendra Kumar allegedly misbehaved with doctor Pawan Kumar at Biharsharif sadar hospital following his refusal to perform autopsy on a deceased JD(U) worker without the completion of requisite formalities.

The striking doctors have demanded an unconditional apology from the legislator as a precondition to return to work.
Dr Pawan Kumar, who was on emergency ward duty on Saturday morning said, “The MLA forced him to perform postmortem of his deceased party worker and when he refused to do it without mandatory formalities he started scolding him. He even threatened to beat me with shoes and asked in a fit of rage as to how did I become a doctor.”
Jitendra Kumar, who is a third time JD(U) legislator from Asthawan and son of a former MLA late Ayodhya Prasad, also allegedly used derogatory words for civil surgeon Dr Parmanand Choudhary, when he tried to pacify him with folded hands.
The legislator in question, however, rejected the allegations of misbehaving with the doctors and refused to tender an apology. “There is no question of tendering an apology for a crime I did not commit.” He said this is an attempt by the incapable civil surgeon and others to cover up the mismanagement of the hospital which he would expose in the larger interests of the patients. He also demanded health minister Mangal Pandey to immediately replace the civil surgeon and order an inquiry into the malfunctioning of the hospital there.

While the striking doctors, who express sympathy with patients for inconvenience caused to them due to their work boycott, insisted on apology by the ‘errant’ legislator before resuming duty.
Several relatives of the patients at Biharsharif sadar hospital wanted an early resolution of the stalemate which is causing hardship to the poor patients.
Deputy superintendent Dr Krishna hinted at an intervention by the IMA if the MLA continues to remain adamant. Nalanda DM Yogendra Kumar Singh, who is learnt to have spoken to the striking doctors and Asthawan MLA Jitendra Kumar said, the issue would be soon resolved.
