MANGALURU: The row over Dasara holidays is back again this year as well. D Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South has urged deputy commissioner Sasikanth S Senthil to declare Dasara holidays from September 28, instead from October 6 to October 20.
"The reason why I'm demanding to declare holidays from September 28, is that all the Dasara rituals begin from that day itself. What is the use of declaring holidays when most of the festival is coming to an end.
Therefore I have requested deputy commissioner Sasikanth S Senthil to write to department of public instruction and others on the same. We are sure that it is implemented this year," said Vedavyas Kamath.
He added that number of holidays will not change but want to advance it to September 28 instead October 6. "According to me, this will help students, parents and teachers to enjoy the festival."
Last year there was same issue, which also included reduction of holidays to compensate leave sanctioned due to rains.
