GAYA: In an apparent case of road rage, Ravi, a 22-year-old auto driver, was shot dead at Nadiraganj locality of the Civil Lines police station area of Gaya town in the wee hours on Monday.
CCTV footage of the locality showed a car trying to overtake a three-wheeler. As the auto driver was unwilling to give passage to the car, the car driver ultimately overtook the three-wheeler and one person fired a shot from inside the vehicle from close range killing the auto driver on the spot.
Sources said the auto driver was a resident of Janata Colony, Bairagi, and was carrying three passengers from the railway station to Vishnupad area of old Gaya.
The passengers quickly escaped after the incident.
Auto drivers in Gaya observed strike to protest against the incident. A case against unknown assailants has been lodged with the Civil Lines police station. Confirming the incident, City SP Manjit said that prima facie it appears to be a case of road rage. “However, nothing can be said with certainty at this stage,” the police officer said.
