2 JMB members held in Malda
Kolkata: It seems the arrest of the Indian Ameer (head) of Jamat-Ul-Mujahideen (JMB) Ejaz Ahmad has blown the lid off yet another round of consolidation by the terror organization in Bengal. Two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh members were arrested at Samsi in Malda on Tuesday. Police also nabbed four men – including two truckers - for transporting 169 packets of ammonium nitrate at Nalhati, Birbhum.
Cops are trying to find a link between the incidents. tnnSTF officials said the fresh arrests – the number now stands at four in the past four days and close to 25 in the past two years – were made possible after one of the JMB module men – Md Abul Quasheem – positively identified the accused while they were trying to flee the spot. The two men have been identified as 1) Abdul Bari (28 )and Nijamuddin Khan (28 ), both hailing from Uttar Dinajpur.
“It is now clear that its north Bengal sleeper cell module has become very active after Jammu and Kashmir was made a union territory. Both the accused had recently started the uttar Dinajpur module and had begun aggressive recruitment. They were arrested while they were trying to escape,” said an investigating officer.
“Some incriminating articles were seized from their possession including their mobile phones. The duo was the main organisers in this newly detected Uttar Dinajpur module. As per instructions of Salauddin Salahein, the overall chief of JMB and Ejaz, both were trying to reorganise, recruit and conduct trainings for the organisation and solicit top leaders from Bangladesh to visit them. Both had gone into hiding after arrest of Ejaz and were caught trying to flee from Bengal.
The Special Task and NIA sleuths probing the Jammat-ul-Mujahideen and the Nabyo JMB modules believe that the chief Salauddin Salahein is presently hiding in India, in all probability in either south India or the borders of Bengal and Jharkhand. The Bangladeshi counterparts have long believed that Saluddin might have fled to India after the Holy Artisan attacks led to a crackdown against terrorists in that country. The questioning of Ejaz Ahmad, said sources have made this a possibility.
The JMB claimed sources might have also received support from a breakaway faction of the Popular Front of India (PFI), said sources. The PFI had faced a ban but the decision was reversed after the intervention of the court. “We now have concrete evidence that Ejaz had joined Salauddin and Kausar (the main operative in India before his arrest) several times in Bengaluru and Kerala,” said a police source.
