AURANGABAD: An alert citizen, who chased and nabbed one of three robbery suspects, helped crack a couple of robbery cases in the city.
The three suspects were on a robbery spree on Monday night, when the city police personnel were busy handling bandobast activities on the first day of the 10-day Ganeshotsav.
The suspects, including a criminal on police record, first stole a cellphone at the Baba petrol pump and then robbed a bank manager of his gold chain and cellphone.
They, however, ran out of luck when Rohidas Dongre, an alert citizen, rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion and chased them. Dongre was able to nab one of the three fleeing suspects.
Soon the matter was reported to the police, following which, teams from the Kranti Chowk police station fanned out and nabbed the other two suspects.
An offence against the accused has been registered with the Kranti Chowk police station.
Police said the arrested accused have been identified as Saloman Kamble, a resident of Cantonment area, and Dinesh Patole, a resident of Ganeshnagar. They were produced before the court on Tuesday, following which they were remanded to two-day police custody. The third accomplice was a minor, and he was produced before the child welfare committee, which sent him to a juvenile home.a

Police said Ashok Sarvesh Ashok Kumar, a manager with a private bank, had been to a restaurant in Bhagyanagar to get food. After picking up the parcel, Kumar was walking home, when the accused trio came from behind and waylaid him near Pralhad Bhavan.
The suspects, threatening Kumar with dire consequences, robbed his cellphone and a gold chain weighing more than 20 gm. As the suspects were fleeing with the robbed articles, Kumar cried for help. Dongre heard his cries and came for help. He chased the trio and managed to nab the 17-year-old minor.
Later, 21-year old Jeevan Palve, a resident of the Beed bypass area, too reached out to the police informing them that he too had been robbed of his cellphone by the trio.
Investigation officer and assistant inspector Rahul Suryatal said: “Preliminary probe has revealed that both the men were robbed by the arrested accused.”
The officer, citing the modus operandi of the accused, said: “The accused have committed the crimes by moving around on a two-wheeler and targeting people in upscale localities. We suspect their involvement in other offences as well.”
