VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday ratified the government's decision to withdraw Navayuga group from Polavaram project and go for reverse tendering. The cabinet approved the proposal to withdraw 3,216.11 crore tender in the hydel project given by the previous government. The cabinet decided go for fresh tenders and recover 780 crore given as mobilisation advance to the contractor.

The Cabinet also decided to take back 412.5 acres of land given to Machilipatnam Port Pvt Ltd as the contractor failed to start work. However, the cabinet did not decide on going for fresh tenders for the port.
On the new sand policy, officials told the cabinet that 41 stock points were kept ready in 13 districts. The stock points would be increased to 80 by October. The mining department had also kept 100 sand reaches ready for mining. Sand would now cost 375 a ton.
The cabinet gave the green light for merger of APSRTC with the government. This would cost the state exchequer 3,300 crore, officials said. The cabinet also cleared the proposal to pay 10,000 to each auto and taxi owner-cum-driver, a promise Jaganmohan Reddy made during his padayatra. This would cost the government 397.93 crore.
The cabinet further cleared the proposal to launch YSR Pelli Kanuka (wedding gift) this year. The government will pay 1 lakh each to SCs and STs, 50,000 to BCs, 1 lakh to minorities, 1.5 lakh to differently-abled, 1 lakh to building workers, 1.20 lakh for SC and ST inter-caste marriages and 70,000 for BC inter-caste marriages. The cabinet approved the proposal to increase wages for ASHA workers from 3,000 to 10,000.
