AMARAVATI: The AP government has decided to handover Gurazala illegal mining case to CBI. Advocate general S Sriram on Wednesday told the high court about the government's decision to go for CBI investigation into the multi-crore mining scandal. The HC is expected to take the final call.
This is the first case to be handed over to CBI after Jaganmohan Reddy took charge as the CM.
Former MLA and TDP leader Yarapathineni Srinivasa Rao is one of the accused in the case registered by CID.
The TDP government was compelled to order a CID probe after the HC pulled it up about two years ago. YSRCP leader and former MLC TGV Krishna Reddy filed the petition in HC, alleging that massive quantum of lime stone and precious mineral were illegally excavated from Nadikudi, Dachepalle and Kesanupalle village of Gurazala constituency. Krishna Reddy submitted detailed evidence along with satellite images and lab reports to prove that huge extent of land were dug out from government and private lands, causing irreparable damage to environment and loss to the exchequer. Krishna Reddy in his petition alleged that Yarapathineni was responsible for the loot of mineral wealth.
After going through the documents, the HC directed the government to take action against all those responsible for illegal mining. The then district collector Kona Sasidhar confirmed that about 33 lakh metric tonnes of mineral were illegally excavated from Nadikude region without obtaining any licence.
